A Night I Will Never Forget
Massey Hall was a fantastic venue. Even though I could only manage to buy seats in the Gallery (highest balcony), the sound quality was still impeccable. The atmosphere was perfect for a band such as Brian Culbertson. Next time I would purchase the more recently renovated Balcony seats. It is one of, if not the oldest concert halls in Toronto, built in 1894.
I have been a fan of Brian Culbertson for a couple of years, but I am by no means a bias 'fan boy'. This was my first Brian Culbertson concert and I went into it with no expectations other than to enjoy the sounds and atmosphere created by a band that I enjoy and respect.
Fellow concertgoers were incredible. The energy in the theatre was palpable. People were happy, considerate, and enjoyable to be around. I could not identify a specific age, gender, dress, or otherwise visibly distinguishable majority. I also was happily surprised to see that the fan base were from all walks of life. This band is truly for anyone.
I don't know if I can express in words the feelings I felt during this concert. Tears were welling in my eyes at points, either from a sense of triumph, or from sadness. What I can say is that this was hands down the best concert I have attended in my lifetime. I experienced such a range of emotions during the show, from happiness to a deep sense of introspection then to sadness and everything in between. And not just tears of sadness, but tears from many different feelings invoked by beautiful, relatable music. My partner also experienced that same. I saw others crying.
I was a Brian Culbertson fan going into this concert, but coming out of it, I had a new appreciation. Almost a life changing experience, and believe me, I do not use that term loosely. Not only for the band, but for life, for others.
Thank you Brian Culbertson for this most wonderful experience. A night I will never forget.
